Not sure what you are asking. Do you mean is Dervish a good secondary for a Necro, or is Dervish a good class to team up with a Necro? N/D does have some nice build options, but almost all of them are support or farming builds. Dervish doesn't really have any skills to deal damage unless using a Scythe, and a Necro using a Scythe is not going to be very effective with the low armor.

Well I can tell you right now that mesmer is your best bet. You get Arcane Echo for a copy of a skill, Auspicious Incantation for energy management, and that's about it. You can probably go N/Mo for healing if you're doing alot of saccing but other than that you should go Mesmer

N/Mo is best for leveling. Later in the game you can change your secondary to various others and switch back and forth.

UWSC is Underworld Speed Clear. 55 necro is a solo farming build. UWSC necro is part of a set of team builds for the UW.

There are also high end team support builds that use a dervish secondary, but these builds are not good for general PvE and leveling. N/Mo at first, and much higher in the game add N/Mesmer as an option.

There are a TON of decent options to boost your damage. Some of these are seen and some aren't, but this is just an example of how certain secondaries can be used to boost damage potential of a Necro.

/Me
[fragility][arcane echo][recurring insecurity]+[soul barbs]

/R
[winnowing]+minions and even [barbs] and [mark of pain]

/P
[go for the eyes]

Then there are things like using the secondary for energy management or for your SOURCE of damage. Like a N/E using [glyph of lesser energy] or a N/Rt using skills like [Ancestor's rage]. Typically a N/D would be using Earth Prayers skills to provide defense and healing, not boost damage. I'd recommend N/Me as there are severl nice build options from the combo.

The best options for a necromancer typically come from their own lines. Use of your secondary should really only be to augment their own skills.
Using [Ancestor's Rage] as a damage dealer may seem to be good at first, but as you progress, the damage it does will dwindle. The necromancer is blessed with a large array of armour ignoring damage skills.

The key is to look for synergy in your build and for synergy between your build and your hero's builds.

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/synergy
"Benefits resulting from combining two different groups, people, objects or processes."

It's when you add two or more things and they produce a result greater than the sum of each of them on their own.

For example: consider the situation with a Minion Master and a necromancer with Barbs. The MM already has a lot of minions.

The necromancer casts barbs on a target. Some of the minions attack this target. That target will recieve damage from the minions and from barbs whenever a minion hits.
That is synergy.
The MM on his own, would not have dealt as much damage and the Barbs Necro would have dealt next to none on his own.

Since all you seem to do is talk about "DPS DPS DPS" I guess you really better make a physical character. Those produce the highest "DPS" on their own.

However, with a proper build in a proper team configuration, no character even comes CLOSE to the damage of a necromancer.

But judging from what you write it seems you want to be manly and kill stuff fast, so make a warrior.

Well, the power of the necromancer doesn't come from instant damage spells, but from spells like Barbs and Mark of Pain. These two are probably the most powerful spells in the game, capable of decimating an enemy mob but require physicals to work.

Damage over time sucks. This is typically called degen, and has a max of -10. That is a massive 20 damage per second..... /sarcasm. Grab a spell like [necrosis] or [discord] and you may have to wait 2 seconds to use it again, but you can see the damage is much higher than 20 per second. Degen only works in the early areas of the game where monsters have lower health levels and fewer if any healing skills.

However, if you insist on using degen, you would want to go Mesmer. Mesmer has a lot of skills to provide degen, and unless you went with a melee weapon or bow/spear, you wouldn't have access to bleeding outside of your Necro spells.

Assassin for [Assassin's Promise]. Use that to recharge [Mark of Pain] and away you go.
Otherwise... well go monk or rit secondary for a hard res.

Be a minion master.

The type of necro you're looking for doesn't really exist, so take a minion master and watch random damage all over the place.
